The Games is an event of epic proportions. From a backyard ranch to national coverage, it is gaining popularity like no other sport out there. Young WODer’s cheer on athletes by name and teenagers in sleeveless shirts are determined to make it to the top. It is easy to get wrapped up in the fun, but as a business owner you should be thinking, what does this mean for my box and our community?
I will touch on a few key points that should be your focus around The Games season. Keep things in perspective and remember that this gets the Kool-Aid drinkers excited. It is your job as an owner to give them an outlet.
A time to celebrate. It is the best time of the year to get your community together. There is something of monumental proportions to talk about and celebrate. I know, sounds like common sense, but some boxes do nothing, but put up a poster. You need to capitalize on this amazing event. Do college football players watch the super bowl? or high school ball players watch the world series? Yes, and it is your job to educate your community on exactly what is happening.
CrossFit Asheveille has put together a great event that will bring their community closer, provide exposure, and grow their business. Check out the link here. If you Google “CrossFit Games Party” tons of links will come up with events that certain boxes are hosting. It is not too late to throw something together. Jump on the bandwagon and give the people what they want.
Educate your people. Believe it or not some people do not know what CrossFit is. I know flipping crazy! This is a great time of year to showcase what CrossFit is all about. Be sure to push out all the information on your website, social media and email blasts for anyone who is following you, but has not taken the plunge. This could be what pushes them to drop into your box next week.
Keep up junior. If you own a hospital you know all about the new health care policy. If you own an outdoor store you better spend sometime camping, hiking and traveling. You get the point? If you own a CrossFit gym you need to know what is going on at the highest level. The athletes, the events and the history. I can not stress how important this is to your community. If you want your members to look up to you then you need to be knowledgeable about your sport.
